Creative Medical Learning releases first board game — MedHead®
PITTSBURGH (Dec. 2) – What started as a creative way to help students review in class for tests has become quite a catchy study group game. Creative Medical Learning LLC has launched its first medical trivia game, MedHead® The Physical Examination Edition.
The game’s developer, Mary Jeanne Krob, MD, a board-certified surgeon, editor of medical textbooks, and adjunct professor in a master’s level Physician Assistant Program at a Pittsburgh university, first created review games for her Physical Diagnosis course. As her students quickly embraced the game, Dr. Krob realized more students could benefit from the idea. In response, she created MedHead®, an interactive way for medical students, physician assistant students, or those in nurse practitioner programs to master complex medical information.
“I probably agonized over tests more than the students. I wanted them to do well,” said Dr. Krob. “These games were my way of helping the students have a little more fun while studying and getting peak inside my brain at the kind of information the students needed to know. They’ve turned out to be hugely successful study tools.”
With more than 300 questions in 10 categories, MedHead® combines key medical terminology and tough brain-buster questions in a fun, competitive board game. Players advance their tokens along the skeleton of the human body while answering medical questions in the following categories:
“Research proves students retain more information when they have interactive ways to learn,” Dr. Krob said. “For students trying to retain medical terminology, the task is even more daunting. Study games like MedHead® bring fun to a difficult task.”
Creative Medical Learning LLC is a privately owned company based outside Pittsburgh, Pa. Owner Mary Jeanne Krob, MD, is the developer of MedHead™ The Physical Examination Edition. The medical trivia game is a question-and-answer-style board game designed for medical students, physician assistant students, or those in nurse practitioner programs.
